Sennheiser wanted to test a prototype external microphone for camcorders, with the goal of understanding audience engagement and identifying areas for improvement. The study aimed to evaluate how the new product compared to alternative solutions for camcorder audio – both competitor external microphones and built-in internal mics.
Skopos conducted face-to-face, in-street interviews with camcorder owners across Europe. Participants tested three options – the Sennheiser prototype, a leading competitor microphone, and the camcorder’s internal mic – providing direct feedback on performance, usability, and perceived quality.
The quantitative results enabled Sennheiser to maximise the strengths of its prototype while addressing perceived weaknesses, ensuring the final product was optimised ahead of launch. The findings gave the business the confidence and clarity to bring a high-performing product to market, backed by robust consumer validation.
